It is both the state land-grant university, with a strong tradition of education and public service, and the state's primary research university, with faculty of national and international reputation. The Electrical and Computer Eningeering Department is part of the Insititute of Technology, encompassing physical sciences, mathematics, and engineering.  Professor Campbell is an IEEE Fellow and holds the Bordeau Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
