Founded in 1953, the Coriell Institute for Medical Research is an independent, not-for-profit research organization dedicated to understanding human genetic diseases and providing the highest quality genetic resources. In addition to research programs in stem cell biology, genetic diversity, and human genetic diseases, Coriell operates the world's largest repositories of human cells for use in research. Much of the technology for the culture, storage, and characterization of human cells was developed at Coriell.
