The Division of Radiation Physics and Informatics currently has 8 faculty physicists, 4 dosimetrists, 2 research post-doctoral fellows and one medical physics resident. The Department of Radiation Oncology is a growing academic department housed in its own two-story building within the UAMS complex. Clinical equipment includes a Gamma Knife Perfexion system, a Helical Tomotherapy system and two Varian Clinac-2100 Ex units (equipped with 120 leaf MLCs, EPIDs, Brainlab Exac Trac IGRT systems and a M3-SRT/S system), a Ximatron Vision simulator, the latest Philips Pinnacle treatment planning software (7 clinical and 1 research workstation), a Brilliance (Phillips) 16-slice CT scanner with 85 cm bore, and a BSD-500 Hyperthermia unit. For Brachytherapy treatments the department has an HDR unit and an LDR program encompassing both interstitial and intracavitary therapy. The faculty has extensive clinical experience with MLC-IMRT, respiration-gated RT, Helical Tomotherapy and Brachytherapy treatment of various tumor sites including prostate brachytherapy using the Nucletron FIRST system. More than 2700 sq ft of physics/engineering research laboratory space is available within the same facility. Physics loboratories are fully equipped. Please see Division webside for information on various research systems, intruments, devices, including the SACRTD, SURLAS, SAHUS, MASH, etc. |
