Department of Electronic Systems has a staff of app. 240 employees. The department's research area covers a wide spectrum within electrical engineering and is reflected in eight sections:

• Antennas, Propagation and Radio Networking
• Automation and Control
• Multimedia Information and Signal Processing
• Navigation and Communication
• Networking and Security
• Radio Access Technology
• Technology Platforms

The department conducts research in electronic and data processing systems to find solutions to different problems. This is done in the idea that if the society has problems that can be solved with electronic or data processing systems, the department will find the solution. In this way the department has focused on close collaboration with the university's environment locally, nationally and internationally but has also focused on producing unique basic research and educating skilled and creative engineers.
