Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a truly unique institution. It is the only international collaborative university in China with dual degree awarding powers, from the Chinese Ministry of Education and from the University of Liverpool. Founded in 2006 with an initial intake of just 164 students, the university has grown rapidly over the last six years. We now have almost 6,000 students on campus with a further 1,500 studying at Liverpool under a 2+2 articulation agreement. The university is independent, but draws for guidance and experience upon its two parent universities, both of which are over one hundred years old and highly respected international pioneers.
After an initial foundation year which includes significant English language provision and training in the use of English for academic purposes, teaching and learning in the subsequent three years is all in the medium of English. We offer twenty-five undergraduate and five postgraduate degree programmes, which are validated by the University of Liverpool. The student learning and teaching experience is enhanced through internal and external moderation of standards, and a thorough quality assurance process is in operation.
XJTLU aims to be a research-led university, in keeping with the spirit of its parents, Xi’an Jiaotong University and the University of Liverpool. We have recently committed significant investment to supporting the development of the research careers in China of newly-appointed staff, through the funding of start-up research projects and of doctoral students. Staff regularly apply for and receive external funding from a range of sources.
As part of an ambitious expansion agenda, there is a large scale campus development programme providing world-class laboratory and teaching facilities. We aim to have 10,000 students on campus by 2015.
We are now recruiting highly-qualified and motivated academic staff for academic year 2012/13. We already have a diverse and talented team of nearly four hundred academic staff, from forty countries.
