W. M. Keck Observatory, a scientific partnership of the California Institute of Technology, the University of California and NASA, operates two 10-meter optical/infrared telescopes on the summit of Mauna Kea on the island of Hawaii. The Keck I Telescope began science observations in March 1993, and observations with Keck II began in October 1996.
