Setting: The EHDL is housed within the Department of ENHS at The Arnold School of Public Health in The University of South Carolina at Columbia. The research conducted within the EHDL involves mouse and human subjects and has the central focus on the role of environmental factors from air, water and diet in causing obesity, metabolic syndrome and non alcoholic fatty liver disease. Most studies are centered on oxidative stress metabolism of environmental contaminants and mechanisms that crosstalk with the innate immune system in causing inflammatory hotspots in physiological systems, especially with relation to metabolic disease. The research carried out in this laboratory is cross disciplinary and collaborations with departments within the school and with National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and Duke University exist.

Qualifications: All of the following are required.
•A PhD in physiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Toxicology and Pharmacology, or a closely related field of study (by August 2012)
•A firm understanding of  Cloning, expression and purification of proteins, Real-Time PCR, native-PAGE & SDS-PAGE, spectroscopy (UV-VIS), protein identification by western blot, peptide mass fingerprinting & MALDI-TOF is required. Knowledge of handling mouse models and in vivo experimental design experience is highly desirable. Knowledge of using immunological techniques both in vivo and in vitro using cell lines and hybridomas is a prerequisite for this position. It is expected that the candidate will have experience in handling Fluorescence Microscopy and Phase Contrast Microscopy.
