    Boston University Medical Campus (BUMC) is located in the historic South End of Boston and comprises the Boston University School of Medicine, the Boston University School of Public Health, the Goldman School of Dental Medicine, and the Boston University Graduate School of Medical SciencesBoston Medical Center is the primary teaching affiliate of Boston University School of Medicine. The Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center, a state mental health facility, is also located on the campus. 

    Renowned for the quality of teaching and research and for service to the community, these schools provide education and training in the most current thinking and techniques in their fields, with a particular focus on serving disadvantaged, underserved and indigent populations. Together, the schools employ more than 3,000 faculty members, many of whom are leading experts in their fields, and train a diverse group of more than 3,000 students.

    Boston University Medical Campus has a rich history dating back to 1848 when it began as the New England Female Medical College, the first institution in the world to offer medical education to women and which graduated the first black woman physician.  In 1873, the medical college merged with Boston University, becoming the first coeducational medical school in the nation. The Goldman School of Dental Medicine was founded in 1976, and the School of Public Health in 1976.

    The pharmacology department at BUSM has primary faculty engaged in cutting-edge research in translational biomedical sciences. We are also dedicated mentors of doctoral students seeking to instill an interdisciplinary approach to discovery. Our faculty members come from multiple departments across the university, providing a wide variety of research projects relevant to the treatment of diseases of the nervous system, cardiovascular system, and cancer. Together we are part of the NIGMS Biomolecular Pharmacology Training Program that provides an educational experience, balanced in content and style, to mold the thought leaders of academic, industrial, and government service career paths for our students.
