Position Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the Quantitative Measurement Lead designs and executes relevant research and interprets results from ongoing IHI project work.  The Quantitative Measurement Lead will consult on IHI research projects and publications involving quantitative methods and provide general statistical consultation.

 

Essential Position Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute relevant research and interpret results from ongoing IHI project work, including describing and applying appropriate analysis plans
  • Consult on IHI research projects and publications involving quantitative methods
  • Provide general statistical consultation
  • Provide guidance on sampling issues for IHI projects
  • Evaluate results and impact of improvement activities; calculate trends in outcomes and attributable impact of interventions (such as lives saved over time and lives saved attributable to the Campaign)
  • Consult on test characteristics and psychometrics on IHI tools
  • Explain statistical and measurement concepts to internal and external audiences
  • Provide statistical modeling for proposed research quality initiatives

 

Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   

  • Very strong analytic ability and familiarity with statistical concepts, knowledge of statistical process control, multivariable analysis, interrupted time series analysis, and other methods used in observational, quasi-experimental, and controlled study designs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (explanations to lay audiences-both verbal and written-will be required often)
  • Fluid with standard, widely used statistical software packages, such as STATA or SAS
  • Understanding of the use of measurement for improvement versus measurement for benchmarking and research
  • Ability to be creative, flexible, and objective

 

Position Qualifications:

  • Requires an MS degree with at least 5 years of experience or a PhD with at least 3 years of experience in biostatistics or other related discipline
  • Requires strong biostatistics training
  • Requires experience working with health care data sets
  • Must be comfortable working using data for both improvement and evaluation and working in multi-center environments
