The Department of Leadership, Technology, and Human Development in the College of Education invites nominations and applications for the position of assistant professor in the Instructional Technology Program. Georgia Southern University, an institution of the University System of Georgia, and a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University, is the largest and most comprehensive center of higher education in the southern half of Georgia. A residential university serving 16,841 students in fall 2007, Georgia Southern's hallmark is a superior educational experience emphasizing academic distinction, excellent teaching, and student success. Founded in 1906, the University offers 118 degree programs at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels through eight colleges. The 675-acre campus is located in Statesboro, a Main Street community of approximately 30,000 residents, 50 miles northwest of historic Savannah, and 200 miles southeast of Atlanta.

 

Within this setting, the Department of Leadership, Technology, and Human Development (http://coe.georgiasouthern.edu/lthd/), one of three departments within the College of Education (http://coe.georgiasouthern.edu/), includes twenty-four faculty in four distinct programs. The Program in Instructional Technology offers graduate degrees at the master's level and service courses at the undergraduate, specialist, and doctoral levels. The Instructional Technology graduate program is offered completely online. Undergraduate instructional technology courses are offered face-to-face.

 

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Leadership, Technology, and Human Development, the Assistant Professor of Instructional Technology will be responsible for teaching online graduate courses, face-to-face undergraduate courses, advising graduate students, conducting and publishing scholarly research, and providing service to Georgia Southern University and the profession. The position is a 9-month appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

Required Qualifications:

Minimum requirements for appointment include an earned doctorate in Instructional Technology or a related area by August 1, 2009; knowledge of current hardware/software applications; the ability to teach graduate courses on-campus and off-campus, offer graduate advisement, conduct scholarly research and publish, and carry out service to the University and profession. Effective communication skills; the ability to work with diverse student populations; and the ability to use and model technology are also required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred experience includes K-12 teaching experience; school library media experience; higher education teaching; and teaching using interactive distance learning systems.
