Position Description:
The Environmental Fate Chemist will provide scientific and regulatory expertise and advice to support the global registration and defense of agrochemicals worldwide. The position requires a strong working knowledge of environmental fate and residue chemistry study types, experimental design, data/results analysis, and potential regulatory impacts to meet global agency requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
· Recommend residue and metabolism studies for soils, plants and animals for new product development based on global regulatory requirements (EPA, EU, OECD) at consulting laboratories.
· Work with internal registration managers, scientists and contract experts and risk assessment to understand hazards and risks of FMC agricultural products.
· Serve as study monitor for contracted studies, including e-fate, residue, and metabolism studies.
· Review and interpret E-fate, plant, and animal metabolism studies for understanding of the residues; identify relevant metabolites in the environment and work closely with toxicologist to provide acceptable exposure/risk assessments.
· Conceive and design higher tier non-guideline studies to resolve regulatory questions globally.
· Provides assessments of non-FMC chemicals regarding how their environmental properties will be viewed by regulatory authorities, especially with regard to current and future registration capability.
· Lead model or direct modeling initiatives on the fate and effects of agricultural use chemicals.
· Develop and perform risk assessments of toxicants, including mechanisms of action and exposure amounts, timing and bioavailability, and PBT characteristics.
· Attend professional meetings and task forces of special interest to FMC businesses (primarily agricultural products related). Publish or present scientific information at meetings and in journals.
Required Experience
· 3-5 yrs experience and broad scientific knowledge in environmental fate or residue chemistry, or similar field.
· Demonstrated expertise in an area of e-fate, metabolism, and/or residue chemistry of agricultural products.
· Knowledge of regulatory and GLP requirements for e-fate, metabolism, and residue chemistry studies for agricultural chemicals.
· Project management skills for externally conducted studies.
· Demonstrated ability to effectively manage work performed at contract labs and with external experts.
· Excellent and effective written and verbal communication skills related to crafting study protocols, summaries and reports for regulatory submission.
· Team environment – work in matrix organization exchanging ideas with colleagues, internally and externally.
Required Education
· MS in chemistry, environmental science, metabolism, residue or ecology, with minimum 5-10 years relevant experience, OR
· PhD in environmental science, metabolism, residue or ecology with 5+ years experience.
