Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher
Description:

The incumbent will be involved in planning and executing experiments, analyzing data, and developing computational infrastructure to suport the Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI) efforts in the synthetic biological design and characterization of microbial pathways for biomass deconstruction and biofuel production. Both general and specific engineering applications will be developed. Biological circuit inference and characterization will be the central theme including developing means for the optimal use of JBEI capabilities in gene expression microarrays, protein and metabolite mass spectrometry, enzymology, imaging and gene deletion experiments.

Essential:

  80%

  • Research new methods of computational and experimental synthetic biology with applications to biofuel research
  • Develop new experimental designs and analysis for optimal use of comparative functional genomics and quantiative biological measurement to discover function, infer biological networks, and engineer/characterize new function in microbes.
  • Develop theories into robust software tools and statistical methods that conform to group standards for usability and interoperability.
  • Interact with and assist a software development team to provide  web-based interfaces to analytical and engineering tools.
  • Operate and as a member of the Arkin group and especially the larger JBEI community to develop effective science and application for biofuel production.

 20%

  • Present results at group meetings, insitute retreats, and scientific conferences.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication.

Essential:

  • PhD within the last three years in a Biological Science or Computer Science with significant bioinformatics and or molecular biology experience is preferred.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·        <!--[endif]-->Candidates must show significant achievement in computational biology and/or microbiological research, and a strong background in genomics, quantitative/systems biology or synthetic biology(experience in comparative microbial genomics is a plus).

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·        <!--[endif]-->Candidates should have some computational background preferably in PERL and SQL as well as first-hand experience with the analysis of biological  data sets.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·        <!--[endif]-->In addition, candidates should be familiar with the standard raw data formats used to describe these measurements.  Familiarity with biological sequence analysis tools is essential.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·        <!--[endif]-->Occasional weekend and after hours work may be necessary.
