The Respiratory Biomechanics Laboratory in the Biomedical Engineering department at the Ohio State University currently has an open post-doctoral research position in the area of “Mechanobiology of Lung Injury/Inflammation.” This position is part of a NSF funded research program that seeks to develop novel cell-based therapies that minimize lung injury and inflammation during mechanical ventilation. The candidate selected for this position will be responsible for studying the effect of complex fluid mechanical forces on inflammatory signaling pathways and developing novel microfluidic cell culture models that mimic the relevant in-vivo physiology. This research project will have access to outstanding research resources including core imaging and genomic/proteomic facilities in the Dorthy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute and access to translational research programs in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Ohio State.

Candidates should have a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Molecular or Cell Biology, the Biomedical Sciences or a related discipline. Candidates will be responsible for writing publication quality manuscripts and research grants and must therefore have strong written and oral communication skills. A strong background in lung cell biology, inflammatory signaling pathways or in-vitro cell culture models is required and expertise in microfluidics, fluorescent microscopy, Western blotting, RT-PCR, ELISA, or in-vivo animal models of lung injury is highly desired.
