The Respiratory Biomechanics Laboratory in the Biomedical Engineering department at the Ohio State University currently has an open post-doctoral research position in the area of “Modeling of Intracellular Force Transmission.” This position is part of a NIH funded research program which seeks to minimize inflammation and airway collapse in the respiratory system by altering intracellular force transmission to important signaling sites (i.e. nucleus, focal adhesion, cell-cell contacts). The candidate selected for this position will be responsible for quantifying intracellular force transmission using a combination of computational and experimental techniques and investigating how molecular scale forces influence inflammatory signaling pathways.  This research project will have access to outstanding research resources including core imaging facilities in the Dorthy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute and access to translational research programs in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Ohio State.

 Candidates should have a PhD in Biomedical or Biomechanical Engineering and a background in biomechanics, cell/molecular mechanics and/or multi-scale modeling. The selected candidate must have expertise with molecular imaging and characterization equipment (i.e. AFM or traction force microscopy), high-resolution fluorescent microscopy (i.e. confocal and/or TIRF microscopy) and cell culture techniques. Candidates will also be responsible for writing publication quality manuscripts and research grants and must therefore have strong written and oral communication skills.
