Job Title: Postdocs in computational design of biological systems and experimental Synthetic Biology
Description:

We urgently seek two postdocs to work on:

Postdoc 1: Computational design of biological systems
We seek a recent Ph.D. in any area of science or engineering, with strong mathematical and programming skills (C++, Linux) and that have an interest for learning molecular biology techniques. Experience with dynamical systems, iGEM, theoretical/computational biophysics, molecular biology, statistical mechanics, and/or computer simulations is a plus but not necessary. Research will involve the computational design of biological systems and the bacterial construction of synthetic genetic circuits with targeted behaviour for biofuel and biomedical applications (http://synth-bio.org). He will be part of our Synthetic Biology consortium BioModularH2 (http://biomodularh2.org). Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as well as willingness to work in a team.

Postdoc 2: Synthetic gene and RNA network engineering
A postdoctoral position is available to work on synthetic gene and RNA network engineering. Our research focuses on developing computational methodologies to design biological systems that could be verified experimentally. The postdoc will work on the design, synthesis and characterisation of biological networks such as bistable switches, oscillators, amplitude filters and actuators in bacteria. Applicants should have or expect to receive a doctoral degree in molecular biology, biochemistry or other related area and experience in experimental gene cloning and expression (construction of cDNA, Recombinant DNA), S/N/W blotting; experience with flow cytometry or with small RNA is preferred but not required. He/she will participate in and support all aspects of the experimental work, in particular facilitating the start-up and smooth day-to-day operation of the laboratory. Applicants are expected to be highly motivated and reliable, and with a strong motivation for simulation and computational techniques. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as well as willingness to work in a team.

Web site: http://synth-bio.org.

The work will take place at the newly created institute of Systems and Synthetic Biology (iSSB) within Genopole (South Paris) that is the largest French Biopark. The appointments are available immediately and they are for one year, renewable annually for up to three years. The city of Paris offers special housing/activities for foreign researchers (http://www.ciup.fr/researchers.htm). The posts will remain open until filled.

Applicants should send a CV, a motivation letter (including salary expectations) and arrange for three recommendation letters to be directly sent to: Prof. Alfonso Jaramillo. For more information, contact assistant Ms. Mariel Montesinos (Mariel.Montesinos at synth-bio.org).

Please, include “synth-bio phd postdoc” in the subject line in all your communications to avoid the spam filter.
