| Job Title: | Postdoctoral positions in computer-aided diagnosis and x-ray tomosynthesis |
| Description: |
Two postdoctoral research fellow positions, one in x-ray tomosynthesis and one in computer-aided diagnosis, are now open in a research laboratory in the Department of Radiology. Our department is one of the leaders in radiological sciences research with 20+ Ph.D.'s in the Basic Sciences Division. Computer-aided diagnosis and x-ray tomosynthesis are forefront research areas in medical imaging. The first position is in x-ray tomosynthesis. The main responsibility of the research fellow will be to develop and evaluate tomosynthesis reconstruction methods for breast, chest, or other body parts. The research will involve development of new reconstruction methods and software, computer modeling of the x-ray imaging process, optimization of parameters, as well as development of artifact reduction techniques for the limited-angle cone-beam reconstruction problems. Qualified applicants will have a PhD degree in physical science, medical physics, computer science, electrical, or biomedical engineering, in-depth knowledge of reconstruction algorithms in medical imaging, especially in reconstructions for limited-angle cone-beam tomography and CT, hands-on implementation and scientific computation experiences in C/C++ environment. A second position is in computer-aided diagnosis. The main responsibility of the research fellow will be to develop computerized methods and programs for detection and analysis of abnormalities on medical images such as mammograms, computed tomograms, and ultrasound images. The research involves digital image processing, computer vision, image analysis, and software development. Qualified applicants will have a PhD degree in computer science, electrical or biomedical engineering, or medical physics. Training or work experience in medical imaging, digital image processing, pattern recognition, artificial intelligence, neural networks, and statistics, hands-on experiences in software design and implementation in C/C++ environment, and development of graphics software and user interfaces are preferred. The postdoctoral fellows are expected to possess strong communication skills, and be able to work independently and with an interdisciplinary team. Experience in the development of software in a group environment is a plus. Candidates who possess a strong motivation to pursue academic research are encouraged to apply. Interested applicants should send their curriculum vitae and three names and telephone numbers of references to the following address. The University of Michigan is a non-discriminatory, affirmative action employer.
