Description 

RTI International is searching for a Vice President of our Public Health and Environment Research (PHE) Division. The PHE Division which annually generates revenues exceeding $25 million conducts important research for government and private clients in the areas of public health and the environment. The Vice President will lead a group of over 100 talented, multidisciplinary researchers within 7 program areas.  The staff is located in RTP, Atlanta, Washington, DC, and several other RTI locations around the country. Working closely with the research staff, the Vice President will guide the strategic growth of the division's research portfolio, tackle important policy issues, and develop innovative, multidisciplinary approaches to challenging research questions. 

Responsibilities 

 

  • Lead strategic projects and initiatives for the division identifying opportunities within areas of interest to continue to provide growth for the division.
  • Raise the PHE division's scientific stature through personal and division staff publications within the PHE research area.
  • Ensure a mission and goals are established for the individual and the division to ensure optimal performance, mentoring and development are achieved.
  • Establish and champion collaborative relationships with other RTI divisions.
  • Provide regular communication with division staff and direct reports.
  • Act as a mentor for managers and staff to provide growth and opportunity in the research and management arena.
  • Display all management core competencies including driving strategy, developing staff capabilities, motivating and influencing others and organizational awareness.
  • Personally display all core competencies of RTI including innovation, communicating and informing, collaborating and teaming, customer and client focus, decision making and judgment, driving results, integrity and trust, professional knowledge and excellence and respect for the individual and the Institute

Qualifications 

 

  • An established professional reputation in the peer and client research community.
  • PhD in the area of Public Health Research or Health Economics with an established professional reputation in the peer and client research community.
  • 10 plus years of experience and publications record in the areas of public health research and/or the environment.
  • 5 years experience in management and leadership roles demonstrating both people and business development skills.
  • Understanding and experience in managing budgets for federal contracting projects.
  • Experience in managing contacts in relevant federal and foundation client markets.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
