| Job Title: | Research Engineer/Research Fellow/Postdoctoral Assoc.-Development of AUV-based Water Quality Sensors |
| Description: |
Research Engineer/Research Fellow/Postdoctoral Associate Position Development of AUV-based Water Quality Sensors A research position is currently available in CENSAM, focusing on the design and implementation of water quality instrumentation to be used aboard an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). This position will be based at the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) Centre in Singapore, with visits to the MIT, and will involve aspects of instrument design, construction and testing. This position will need significant interaction with an AUV laboratory at the National University of Singapore (NUS), for purposes of creating appropriate mechanical and electrical interfaces with the host vehicle, as well as planning and carrying out AUV missions in the later phases of the project. Applicants should have a doctorate in Mechanical, Electrical, or other appropriate branch of engineering or physical science, although well-qualified candidates with an MS degree may also be considered. A solid background in at least one of the following is essential: mechanical design and fabrication, analog and digital design, mass spectrometry, optical instrumentation including lasers, or AUV design. Knowledge of basic electronics and/or programming experience are desirable. An interest in the water environment, and/or an interest in underwater vehicles and robotics, are also pluses for this position. An ability to achieve goals with minimum day-to-day supervision is important, since much of the interaction with the project's principal investigator and other collaborators will be at distance via electronic media. The project will provide much opportunity to interact with a diverse group of researchers working on exciting environmental applications of cutting-edge technology. There will be ample opportunity to co-author peer-reviewed publications and to make professional contacts within the scientific and engineering community. Applications should include a cover letter and a full CV/resume, together with names and contact information for three references. Please submit applications via email to censam@mit.edu. For more information, visit CENSAM website at http://censam.mit.edu/. |
