Job Title: A Postdoctoral Position in Drosophila Stem Cell Research
Description:

A postdoctoral position is available for a Drosophila researcher in the Stem Cell Regulation and Animal Aging Section in the Mouse Cancer Genetics Program at the National Cancer Institute of NIH.

Stem cells are responsible for maintaining tissue homeostasis and are tightly controlled by particular microenvironments known as niches.  Tumors may arise from small populations of so-called ” “cancer stem cells”, which probably have arisen from mutations that disrupt normal stem cell self-renewal.  Therefore, understanding the molecular mechanism that controls stem cell self-renewal versus differentiation is crucial to the use of stem cells in regenerative medicine and to the development of effective anticancer therapies. The laboratory is studying stem cell and cancer stem cell regulation in both Drosophila and mouse in vivo model systems.  Please view the lab’s website at: http://ccr.cancer.gov/Staff/Staff.asp?profileid=5799 for general project information.

The current opening is for a Drosophila researcher.  Candidates with a strong background in Drosophila genetics are encouraged to apply. The minimum annual starting stipend at NCI is $46,200 for new graduates, with additional increase based on previous postdoctoral experience.  The appointment is for three years, with an option of renewing for additional two years.   Please email your application to Dr. Steven Hou (Senior Investigator, Bldg. 560, Room 12-70, Mouse Cancer Genetics Program, National Cancer Institute at Frederick, MD 21702) at hous@mail.nih.gov.
