We are inviting highly qualified candidates to apply for a variety of positions, for a period of 3 years. You will be researching in the fields of Digital Signal Processing, Acoustics, and Vibration Physics. The research team led by Profs Andy W. H. Khong and Gan Woon Seng will train and equip you with the relevant research skills. This research is supported by the National Research Foundation Singapore. More information can be found here.

You will conduct leading-edge research in the fields of speech recognition and digital signal processing for our next-generation human-machine interface STATINA. You will be working as a team and be largely responsible for implementing and developing new speech recognition algorithms. In addition to implementing real-time algorithms which the team develops throughout the course of the project, you will also be developing Windows-based applications so as to support our speech, touch and acoustic engines. Secondary job function includes the opportunity to develop soft-skills such as leading Ph.D. students as well as to drive the research team in developing new software solutions. Specifically we are looking for expertise in these technological areas with the following detailed responsibilities.

A. Speech Signal Processing

You will be expected to understand/have experience in developing key-word spotting algorithms. These algorithms will be implemented using C/C++ by employing the Hidden Markov Model Toolkit (HTK) for speech recognition. You will also be expected to investigate and implement algorithms such as the K-best hypothesis as well as the Iterative Viterbi decoding algorithm for STATINA’s voice-enabled command engine.

B. Hardware and software Window-based applications

Your main responsibilities include setting up the data acquisition system as well as writing window-based software applications to support speech, touch and acoustic engines in STATINA. You will be expected to have be highly motivated and driven on by hands-on experiences (preamps, multichannel data acquisiton) for the data acquisition work package. You are expected to be highly creative and proficient in GUI based applications as well as very proficient in programming languages such as MatLab and C/C++.
