Job Title: Postdoctoral hydrologist
Description:

Postdoctoral Scientist

Hydrograph analysis and prediction for Pacific Northwest river basins

Watershed Science Program

Colorado State University

Responsibilities: Seeking postdoctoral scientist to join a team of investigators exploring the impacts of climate change on hydropower production in the Pacific Northwest.  This project is funded by the Department of Energy Office of Science (BER) and is a collaborative project between Colorado State University and Natural Resource Consulting Engineers in Fort Collins, Colorado.  The key tasks are to (1) conduct multivariate statistical analyses of hydrologic variables for Pacific Northwest basins with different climate and runoff characteristics, and (2) develop a stochastic method for generating ranges of possible flow regimes in these basins under changing climate scenarios.  The collaborating research team will use these stochastically-generated flow regimes in a water operations model to explore sensitivities and responses of hydropower operations to climate change.  This position is a full-time 2-year appointment, starting February 2009.

Desired qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in a Hydrology or a related field;
  • Skills in programming and data analysis, including multivariate statistics and Monte Carlo methods;
  • Background in hydrologic theory, including surface water, groundwater, and stochastic processes;
  • Strong writing skills and publication record in high-quality refereed journals;
  • Demonstration of creative, innovative thinking and ability to develop novel data analysis methods.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Closing date:   Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but for full consideration, applications should be submitted by November 14, 2008
