A postdoctoral position in the Irving research group is currently available. The research of the group centers on the use of atomistic and multi-scale approaches to study energy related applications and materials in extreme environments. Current topics include:

1) Engineering optimal materials for reciprocating electrical contacts in MEMS and NEMS. This will involve implementation and extension of an existing novel multi-scale coupled continuum and atomistic approach.

2) First principles and transition state theory methods applied to study the degradation of diamond.

3) Extension of a coupled atomistic and continuum method to study degradation issues in solid oxide fuel cells.

Candidates should already have a Ph.D. or be close to completion of a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field. Experience in atomistic or multi-scale modeling as well as an ability to program in FORTRAN and C++ as well as MPI is preferred.
