Job Title: Graduate student position in multi-scale and atomistic modeling at NCSU
Description:

Graduate student positions in the Irving research group are currently available. The research of the group centers on the use of atomistic and multi-scale approaches to study energy related applications and materials in extreme environments. Current topics include:

1) Engineering optimal materials for reciprocating electrical contacts in MEMS and NEMS. This will involve implementation and extension of an existing novel multi-scale coupled continuum and atomistic approach.

2) First principles and transition state theory methods applied to study the degradation of diamond.

3) Extension of a coupled atomistic and continuum method to study degradation issues in solid oxide fuel cells.

Graduate students will be involved in the development of new computational methods and algorithms and applications of these methods to problems in materials science and engineering. The applicant should have a strong interest in a general area of computational sciences and satisfy admission requirements for Materials Science and Engineering Department, North Carolina State University. The successful applicant will be offered a yearly stipend, full tuition coverage, and health benefits.
