| Description: |
The CCI is inviting applications for Research Scientist position in Biomedical Informatics and Imaging Informatics. This position offers an excellent opportunity to carry out research on advanced informatics systems motivated by the requirements of large scale biomedical and imaging research projects, to lead development of high end software systems, and to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary group of scientists, software researchers, and software developers. Projects encompass semantic modeling, biomedical data integration, image analysis techniques, image data management and analysis systems, and Grid-enabled and federated biomedical databases. The position offers a stimulating environment with links to major Atlanta research institutions, including Georgia Institute of Technology, as well as excellent opportunities for interactions with research and development communities on a national and international level. The CCI carries out a comprehensive research and development agenda in Biomedical Informatics, Grid Computing, High Performance Computing, Translational Research Informatics, and Imaging Informatics. The Center pursues both development of novel information technologies as well as application of such technologies for coordinated management, analysis, and integration of heterogeneous, multi-scale scientific data. CCI is a multi-disciplinary center promoting and fostering collaborative projects between software system researchers and scientific research groups. Research and development efforts of the CCI are driven by the informatics requirements of large scale, collaborative, and leading edge research in biomedicine, engineering, and science. Examples of large-scale projects the CCI is involved in include the NCI-funded cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid (caBIG; https://cabig.nci.nih.gov/) and the CardioVascular Research Grid (http://www.cvrgrid.org/). The successful candidate will carry out research and development on novel techniques and innovative software systems motivated by biomedical and imaging applications. The areas of interest include one or more of the following: Grid-enabled biomedical informatics systems, software systems for high throughput analysis, biomedical image management and analysis, high-end databases and data intensive computing, data and knowledge representation and integration systems. The candidate will supervise graduate and undergraduate students; work in a team and collaborate with multi-disciplinary group of scientists and software developers to translate research prototypes into software systems, including standards, middleware, and applications, that satisfy the needs of the user community; participate in all aspects of research and proposal writing; and disseminate research findings through publications in prestigious journals and conferences and by presentations at conferences and technical meetings. The candidate should have PhD degree in Biomedical Informatics or Computer Science, or in a related field including but not limited to Electrical and Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics with strong research experience in informatics systems; or MS degree in Biomedical Informatics, or equivalent field with at least 4 years of research experience at a National Lab, Industry Lab, and/or academia and strong publication record. Ability and desire to supervise a team of research programmers to develop high quality, distributable software from research prototypes is a plus. Candidates with interdisciplinary research interests are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants should send via email a detailed CV, including a summary of thesis research, a research statement, a list of publications, copies of two selected papers, and three letters of recommendation to:
