Job Title: PhD Student, Intelligent Observer and Control for Pharmaceutical Batch Crystallization
Description:

Project description
Intelligent Observer and Control for Pharmaceutical Batch Crystallisation in the Pharma sector. As the PhD candidate you are expected to improve model-based control/optimization of seeded batch crystallisation for the pharmaceutical industry by:
1) Addressing the uncertainty of current mathematical process models. One can think of quantifying the (allowable) model uncertainty and lowering model uncertainty by identification and/or paramater estimation, or of model-free extensions based on experimental data.
2) Achieving better control and optimization of crystallisation based on an effective closed-loop model. This boils down to feedback by means of frequent updating the model predictions via a form of non-lineair state estimation. In order to do this real-time non-linear, model reduction is necessary.

Job requirements
This project will be carried out by a multidisciplinary team and we are looking for a motivated candidate with a MSc degree and a good background in process systems and process control. The candidate should be willing to start on short notice. A good command of the English language is required.

Job offer
1) The opportunity to do research that is scientifically challenging and of industrial relevance.
2) Participation in two research schools (DISC and OSPT) is foreseen.
3) Extra support towards your next career step within the DSTI network.
4) Your salary will be in line with the Dutch standards for PhD students and Post Docs.
5) The appointment will be for 4 years.
6) Assistance with Visa and accommodation can be arranged.
