The Inelastic X-ray Scattering Assistant or Associate Scientist will be working with the user community and under the direction of the Inelastic X-ray Scattering Group Leader to develop a scientific research program and its technical implementation at a state-of-the-art inelastic x-ray scattering beamline at National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II), including its design, construction, and commissioning. 

Requirements:

• Ph.D. in physics or related fields
• 2-5 years of postdoctoral experience in synchrotron research and applications.  Selected candidate will be placed at Assistant or Associate level based on years and quality of experience.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills and ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of scientists, technical staff, and users. 
• Experience in inelastic scattering is preferred, as well as prior experience in construction or operation of a synchrotron beamline and/or in x-ray optics.

National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) is a proposed new state-of-the-art medium energy storage ring designed to deliver world leading brightness and flux with top-off operation for constant output. The facility will be able to produce x-rays up to 10,000 times brighter than those produced at the NSLS today. Design and engineering of the new light source began in 2007 and  construction and operations are expected to being in 2009 and 2015, respectively.
