Job Description 

 

This position will be a full-time, on-site assignment for an experienced PhD level Epidemiologist within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia supporting the Rare Diseases and Health Outcomes Team, National Center for Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities.

 

This is a 5 year contract with CDC, which is currently funded for one year with the expectation of a renewal for the full 5 year term. 

   

Responsibilities 

 

1. Design surveillance systems Duchenne/Becker Muscular Dystrophy, spina bifida, and Fragile X Syndrome provide scientific and technical support including:

  • planning
  • study design
  • implementation
  • data analysis
  • evaluation
  • dissemination of results

 

2. Provide scientific and technical support in future public health activities in rare disorders

  • background analyses and syntheses
  • formative planning
  • preparing OMB and IRB clearance packages
  • implement and evaluate surveillance systems.

 

3. Consulting and collaborating with stakeholders in rare disorders and health outcomes strengthen and optimize public health activities related to surveillance systems.

4. Provide scientific support and technical assistance for public health activities related to  programs involving rare disorders and health outcomes, including:

  • formative planning
  • study design
  • implementation
  • monitoring
  • data analysis
  • evaluation
  • dissemination of the results for public health programs
  • consulting and collaborating with partners and stakeholders in rare disorders
  • travel to appropriate meetings and conferences as required

   

Qualifications 

 

A Ph.D. in epidemiology combined with a minimum of 5 years of experience in epidemiology, including design, data analysis and evaluation of surveillance systems and/or public health programs.

 

Additional advantageous qualifications:

  • Prior experience with CDC or another federal agency.
  • Public health publications and presentations.
  • Work in rare disorders, including Duchenne/Becker Muscular Dystrophy, spina bifida, or Fragile X Syndrome.
  • Work experience with voluntary groups interested in health conditions.
