A Postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Oral Biology and Pathology in the School of Dental Medicine at Stony Brook University in Long Island, New York. The successful candidate will investigate one of two active projects in the laboratory.  The first project will investigate the molecular mechanisms involved in pulmonary fibrotic lesion development in two clinically relevant pulmonary diseases, Bronchiolitis Obliterans Organizing Pneumonia (BOOP) and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) using pulmonary inoculation with reovirus 1/L.  The second project will investigate immunity generated at mucosal sites including the salivary gland and oral cavity. We have developed a model of salivary gland immunization to address the role of the salivary gland as a potential immune inductive site as well as its role in mucosal immunity in general. PhD or MD/PhD, DDS or DDS/PhD Degree required. Previous post-doctoral experience is preferred, but is not essential. The environment is highly enthusiastic and interactive with basic research and clinical translational research developments. Experience in immunology and/or virology and techniques associated with these disciplines such as PCR, immunocytochemical techniques, tissue sectioning and staining, and/or cell and viral culture are preferred. Ability to work with animals is required.
