Job Description 

 

The Bioinformatics Group in the Research Computing Division at RTI International has an opening for a Bioinformatics Genomics Specialist to address emerging analytic problems in genomics and in Genome-wide Association Studies (GWAS).  A fundamental understanding of genetics and excellent communication skills will make it possible for the Specialist to effectively communicate with research scientists, computer scientists and statisticians.  Residing in the Bioinformatics Group, the Specialist will have access to domain experts who understand the biological questions and who can discuss potential solutions as the Specialist develops novel ways of evaluating complex data sets. 

   

Responsibilities 

 

  • Develop protocols and methods for characterizing, evaluating and analyzing GWAS.
  • Develop protocols and methods for evaluating, combining and analyzing various types of genomics data.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities in the area of GWAS and genomics data analysis.
  • Take advantage of in-house high-performance computing (HPC) resources when developing analytic methods.

   

Qualifications 

 

  • Ph.D. in Genetics, Mathematical Biology or related discipline and 6+ years of experience.
  • Experience analyzing genomics and/or GWAS data.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure research funding.
  • Experience with data visualization methods and/or pathway linkage is desirable.
  • Experience with HPC preferred but not required.
