Job Title: Glass Scientist
Description:

Our client is located in the Research Triangle Park area of NC, is developing unique, patented technology that allows transfer printing of high performance semiconductors onto virtually any surface, including glass, flexible or rigid plastic, metal or other semiconductors. The initial applications of our technology include high frequency semiconductors for mobile communications, TFT backplanes for flat panel displays, flexible digital X-ray detectors, and high performance radio frequency identification (RFID) tags.

We are developing a new high performance micro-concentrator solar cell array that can be produced at a fraction of the cost compared to alternative technologies.  Because of the low cost parallel processing approach coupled with the high performance optics and multi-junction solar cell combination, the solar module will have the lowest $/W ratio available in the marketplace.

The solar industry is growing at an unprecedented rate and is demanding the highest performance solar modules at the lowest possible cost.  Our company has developed unique technology licensed from the University of Illinois which is capable of massively parallel transfer printing small solar cell chips onto a glass solar panel at very low cost.  The technology enables the use of very high performance multi-junction III-V compound semiconductor solar cells.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Glass Scientist will be responsible for the R&D associated with the glass components associated with the high concentration photovoltaic solar cell module including the backplane, top panel, and all optical elements.  The candidate will work with a dynamic team of engineers and partners engaged in this exciting and multi-disciplinary field and will report directly to the VP of Technology.

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate must have an advanced degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or equivalent and 5+ years of industry experience with flat panel glass products.  The individual must be technically strong and have experience developing processes or products intended for use in manufacture.  Experience in the flat panel display or equivalent industry is highly desirable.  In addition, the candidate must be a highly motivated individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills and who is a good team player.
