The Mathematical Physics Group at the Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland invites applications for a

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION

The candidate should have a good mathematical background and sufficient research experience in one of the key priorities of the group: partial differential equations and their physical applications, geometry of Kähler manifolds, higher-dimensional general relativity, topological defects, gravity and gauge theories: geometry and integrability, noncommutative geometry.

The ideal candidate should have interests extending to more than one of the above mentioned topics and be willing to work both with mathematicians and mathematical physicists. We also expect that the candidate shall actively participate in the activities of the group co-organizing lestures and seminars.   

The position is initially for one year with the possibility of extending it for 18-20 months. The salary depends on the family status and it is estimated from 42000 Euros per year (before tax and social security), plus travel and carreer exploratory allowances according to the general Marie Curie ToK rules.

The starting date (March-April 2009) shall be negotiated with the successful candidate. We offer help with formalities and accommodation in Krakow.

KraGeoMP is a Marie Curie Host Fellowships for the Transfer of Knowledge (ToK) Development Host Scheme at the Institute of Physics and Institute of Mathematics of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. The program runs 2006-2010 and is centred around the geometry problems in modern mathematical physics. This involves higher dimensional gravity, solution of Einstein equations in higher dimensions, problems of singularities and initial conditions; differential equations, partial differential equations, topological defects, strings and noncommutative geometry.
