Postdoctoral Fellowship in Image Guided Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic Surgery
Applications are invited from outstanding individuals for a postdoctoral fellowship within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia. The fellowship is intended for applicants with experience and research interests in medical image guided interventions. He/she will assume a leading role in the research and development of new tools and techniques for the incorporation of ultrasound into robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery.

The successful candidate will be expected to hold a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, medical physics, computer science or a related field. The Ph.D. degree must have been obtained within three years of the start date of the position. The successful candidate will have superior skills in image processing, image analysis, software design, and user-interface design. A strong background in clinical applications of medical imaging is necessary. In view of the broader mandate and involvement of the research group in the field of image-guided interventions, the ideal candidate will have additional experience in multi-modality image fusion, 3D imaging and/or tissue modeling.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes both engineering and medical faculty, graduate students, undergraduate research assistants, and medical staff. Work will be performed mainly at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver General Hospital, with close collaboration with Queen's University.

As part of the team, the candidate should have good interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, hardworking, detail-oriented and have an ability to perform under pressure and meet time-sensitive deadlines. This team also provides extensive resources and infrastructure for the research, including access to state-of-the-art Ultrasonix ultrasound machines, Da Vinci surgical robot, GE computed tomography scanners, high performance computing and advanced image analysis software.
