FOR IMMEDIATE HIRE! Please note the below: You will need to move to work in Carbondale for 6-9 months and then move to the bay area. Do not apply if you are unable to move. We are looking for a candidates with deep polymer/sol-gel synthesis experience. An exciting opportunity to work in a venture backed clean-tech & alternative energy startup. This is a challenging/full time position for a self-driven individual. The job will be initially based in Illinois but transfers to Silicon Valley after 6 to 9 months. 

Your job will be the design and development of processes for the manufacture of nano-structured coatings using sol-gel chemistry in an industrial R&D environment. You will synthesize coatings, characterize their microstructure and properties then scale-up the processes for manufacture. You will work in a cross-functional team environment including equipment engineers, product engineers and lab technicians. This is a typical startup, you should be willing and able to work hard with limited resources as part of a tight-knit group and be flexible and accommodating to changing priorities and circumstances.


  • Select and develop material and equipment for the coating process to meet quality, reliability, yield and manufacturability requirements 
  • Defining process, procedures, and equipment configuration for the coating tool. 
  • Plan and conduct experiments to fully characterize the process and product throughout the development cycle. 
  • Willingness to travel in US.


Qualifications 

A recent Ph.D. in Science and/or Engineering discipline such as Chemistry, Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Physics is required. At the time of appointment, the candidate must hold appropriate employment authorization to work in US. 

Additional qualifications include: Knowledge of surface characterization tools and techniques, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE) principles, excellent written and verbal communication skills. Good equipment skills with some experience in maintaining equipment. Prior experience in sol-gel and/or coatings technology is preferred.
