At the Institute of Materials Science and Technology (IMT) of the Friedrich-Schiller- University (FSU) Jena, the following position is available:
One research assistant position (part time)
in Materials Science & Engineering/Physics/Chemistry

This position is available immediately, subject to approval of funds for 18 months at the Institute of Materials Science and Technology (IMT) of the Friedrich-Schiller-University (FSU) Jena, Germany. This position is funded by the Carl-Zeiss-Foundation. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work at a state-of-the-art facility on biomaterials within one of Germany’s leading research universities.

This project focuses on the formation of protein nanofibrils (PNFs) and the preparation of bioactive nano/micro materials based on self-assembled PNFs. The work involves: preparation and characterization of PNFs, protein adsorption on carbon nanotubes, hydroxyapatite formation in simulated body fluids, and cell culture on bioactive PNF materials.

Applicants should have a master or higher degree in physics, chemistry, biology, materials science or a related relevant subject, and are expected to be familiar with surface characterization techniques (AFM, SEM, TEM) and other spectral techniques (Raman, FT-IR, dynamic or static lighting scattering, XPS). Previous experience in carbon nanotubes modification, hydroxyapatite preparation, protein aggregation, or cell culture would be preferred. Excellent oral and written communications skills are expected.

The salary is according to TVL13 (1/2) that is depending on working experience.
