Job Title: Geological Postdoc Fellow - Geochemistry
Description:

Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory is providing solutions to scientific problems! Are you someone who can make a difference on our team?

We are currently looking for a Geological Post Doctoral Fellow to join our Center for Isotope Geochemistry, which is within the Earth Sciences Division here at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. This position will span the areas of noble gas geochemistry and earth sciences, exploring fundamental processes related to environmental, climate and energy issues of national interest. This Post Doctoral position offers a chance to work with a highly interdisciplinary team, and will require strong self motivation and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Background

Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory is a renowned center of scientific expertise in the many facets of energy related fundamental and applied science. In particular, the Geochemistry Department and Center for Isotope Geochemistry within the Earth Sciences Division have expertise in isotope geochemistry, reactive transport modeling, experimental mineral-water kinetics, molecular geochemistry and nanogeoscience, biogeochemistry, soil geochemistry, marine geochemistry, global and regional climate modeling, mineralogy, as well as subsurface geophysics and hydrogeology.

The Geological Post Doctoral Fellow will:

  • Conduct research in noble gas isotope geochemistry, to explore and refine our understanding of hydrodynamic processes and coupled mineral-water-gas reactive transport in saturated and unsaturated media.
  • Focus on fundamental earth processes related to environmental, climatic and energy issues of national interest.
  • Prepare research publications (both oral and written) on experimental results of research projects.
  • Communicate results of research projects in group meetings and participate in professional activities, as appropriate.
  • On an as needed basis, assist PI of the noble gas research group in the operation and maintenance of the noble gas laboratory, which consists two high resolution magnetic sector mass spectrometers, one quadrupole mass spectrometer and associated sample preparation vacuum lines. Collaborate with scientists, graduate students and other members of the various research groups, particularly within the Center for Isotope Geochemistry.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Recent PhD (within the last two years) in geochemistry, hydrology, hydrogeology, or a related field.
  • Strong background in hydrodynamic processes or coupled mineral-water-gas reactive transport in saturated and unsaturated media.
  • A self-motivating spirit, independent attitude and the ability to communicate and coordinate efforts between multiple groups.
  • Ability to communicate results, both oral and written.
  • Background or experience in noble gas isotope geochemistry including knowledge of analytical techniques and vacuum technology and a willingness to work in the field to meet project goals is desired.

    Notes

This is a full-time, one year appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory work performance, on-going business needs and continuation of funding.
