Position Title: Post-Doctoral Research Associate
Appointment: Two years (October 2009-July 2011)
Starting Salary: $50,000 per year plus benefits
Place: Lincoln, Nebraska

Duties and Responsibilities: Applications are invited for a two-year post-doctoral position in the Community and Regional Planning Program at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, beginning immediately. This position is funded by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, and the major duty of this position is to develop a comprehensive area-specific habitat conservation plan for the federal endangered Salt Creek tiger beetle in Nebraska. The selected candidate will work in close partnership with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, multiple departments in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, natural resource agencies, NGO’s, and local city and county planning agencies. The responsibilities include the development of a formal Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) following the guidelines and requirements outlined by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. An HCP is an extensive planning process that encompasses data collection, spatial and statistical analysis, GIS mapping, zoning and regulatory evaluations, professional training, and preparation of technical reports.

Qualifications: Applicants must have completed a Ph.D in planning, or wildlife biology, or conservation biology, or a related field prior to December 31, 2009. The selected candidate must have expertise in environmental planning, conservation planning, wildlife management, urban and land use planning, and natural resources management with a GIS emphasis. The successful candidate will demonstrate:
• Strong quantitative skills (including GIS skills)
• Excellent skills in writing and communication
• Commitment to achieving deliverables according to the project timeline
• Work collaboratively with multiple agencies and researchers
