Job Title: Identifying Chlamydial Virulence Factors Important to Immune Avoidance and Persistent Infection, Dr. Harlan Caldwell
Description:

Postdoctoral Intramural Research Fellowship Positions
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)

Postdoctoral fellowship positions are available in the Chlamydia Pathogenesis and Immunity Section of the Division of Intramural Research, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Laboratory of Intracellular Parasites, Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML) in Hamilton, MT. The laboratory research focus is to identify chlamydial virulence factors important to immune avoidance and persistent infection. A long-term goal is the development of an efficacious vaccine to prevent chlamydial-caused sexually transmitted infection and blinding trachoma. The lab uses modern cell biology, molecular biology, comparative genomics, immunology, and animal models of infection to define virulence factors and design vaccines.

RML supports research on a number of significant bacterial and viral human pathogens. RML offers state-of-the-art facilities for genomics, proteomics, DNA microarray, and biological imaging in a recently renovated laboratory that includes new biosafety level-3 containment and animal facilities. The laboratory is located in the scenic Bitterroot Valley of western Montana, with easy access to some of the finest outdoor recreational opportunities in North America. In 2009, RML was ranked eighth in the The Scientist magazine's survey of the Best Places to Work for postdoctoral research fellows.

Starting stipends range from $43,100 to $52,600 per year, depending on experience, and health benefits are provided. Preference will be given to those candidates with experience and a background in molecular pathogenesis and animal models of infection.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D., D.V.M., or M.D.
