Postdoctoral Fellowship available within the Laboratory of Human Retrovirology (LHR). This laboratory conducts research as part of the Clinical Services Program whose primary mission is to perform sequential studies of immune function in patients with cancer, AIDS, chronic granulomatous disease or other diseases associated with immunologic dysfunction, as well as to monitor viral load in patients with HIV. The LHR has investigated the impact of host proteins associated with innate immunity on HIV-1 replication in T cells and macrophages. You will investigate the molecular mechanism of the regulation of HIV replication using recombinant and native proteins in vitro tissue culture systems. May involve following techniques: infection of cells with HIV viruses, construction of HIV mutants, protein pull down assay, extraction of RNA and DNA, DNA cloning and sequence, quantitative real time PCR, point mutagenesis, reporter assay, western blot, protein-protein interaction assay, immunoprecipitation, EMSA, ELISA, siRNA, FACS, purification of recombinant proteins using prokaryotic or eukaryotic expression systems, Microarray analysis, multiplex protein assay.

Doctorate degree from an accredited college/university in a discipline related to biomedical research. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States. No experience required beyond the educational requirement. Experience in tissue culture skills using mammalian cells required. Must be familiar with molecular biological techniques, tissue culture or virology and be familiar with at least one of following fields: molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry or microbiology.
