Job Title: Developmental Neurobiology, Dr. Patricia Jensen
Description:

The National Institute of Environmental Health Science (NIEHS), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is recruiting postdoctoral fellows in the Laboratory of Neurobiology (LN), located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

The candidates will work with Dr. Patricia Jensen, principal investigator of the newly established Developmental Neurobiology Group in LN. The mission of the Developmental Neurobiology Group is to understand how genetic and environmental perturbations during development alter the fates and functions of specific sets of neurons and how these alterations lead to neurological disorders. Using the mouse as a model system, the laboratory combines molecular, cellular, and genetic approaches to study the specification, patterning, and function of specific subclasses of noradrenergic neurons.

We are seeking talented, innovative, and enthusiastic researchers who will complete graduate training in the next six months or who have received a Ph.D. within the last 3 years. Highly motivated candidates with a genuine interest in developmental neurobiology are encouraged to apply.

The NIEHS is perennially ranked as one of the best places to work in the United States by postdocs, and there is an active postdoc association. The scientific environment, resources, and stipend support are superb. Appointments are initially for 2 years with the possibility of annual renewal for 3 additional years. Positions are open until filled.

To apply, please click on the button below, or send a cover letter, curriculum vitae including a list of publications in peer-reviewed journals, and the names/phone numbers of three people who could provide letters of reference to Dr. Patricia Jensen, at jensenp3@niehs.nih.gov.

The NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs.

Employer:

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, is one of 27 research institutes and centers that comprise the National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The mission of the NIEHS is to reduce the burden of human illness and disability by understanding how the environment influences the development and progression of human disease.

The NIEHS traces its roots to 1966, when the U.S. Surgeon General announced the establishment of the Division of Environmental Health Sciences within the NIH. In 1969, the division was elevated to full NIH institute status. Since then, the NIEHS has evolved to its present status as a world leader in environmental health sciences, with an impressive record of important scientific accomplishments and a proud history of institutional achievements and growth under the leadership of former directors Paul Kotin, M.D. (1969–1971), David P. Rall, M.D., Ph.D. (1971–1990), and Kenneth Olden, Ph.D. (1991–2005).

Today, under the guidance of its 2006–2011 Strategic Plan, the NIEHS is expanding and accelerating its contributions to scientific knowledge of human health and the environment, and to the health and well-being of people everywhere.
