Georgia Southern University, a member institution of the University System of Georgia, invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology (tenure-track) in the Department of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Technology in the Allen E. Paulson College of Science and Technology.

Position Description. Reporting to the Department Chair, the successful candidate will be expected to perform the traditional duties of a tenure-track faculty member, including, but not limited to, teaching, service, grant writing, and scholarship. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop a vigorous interdisciplinary research program and contribute to the scholarly activities of an existing Georgia Southern research cluster in renewable energy. The position is a 9-month appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
B.S. and Ph.D. degrees, or equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field by August 1, 2010;
ability to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratories in the areas of energy science, including, but not limited to, thermodynamics, combustion, heat transfer, and/or renewable energy;
potential for establishing a successful scholarship program in the area of energy science;
ability to work with diverse populations and in teams; and
demonstrated effective communication skills in spoken and written English.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using combustion simulation software such as KIVA, AVL-Fire, or CHEMKIN;
teaching experience at college/university level;
professional engineering registration; and
industrial experience in the field of energy science.
