Job Title: Postdoctoral Associate (Mass Spectrometry)
Description:

SMART is a major new research enterprise established by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in partnership with the National Research Foundation of Singapore (NRF). SMART serves as an intellectual hub for international research collaborations, not only between MIT and Singapore, but also involving researchers from the region and beyond. At SMART, we identify and carry out research on critical problems of societal importance. SMART is a magnet attracting and anchoring global research talent, while simultaneously instilling and promoting a culture of translational research and entrepreneurship in Singapore. Three interdisciplinary research groups (IRGs) have been established to date: BioSystems and Micromechanics (BioSym), Centre for Environmental Sensing and Modeling (CENSAM) and Infectious Diseases (ID). Two new IRGs will be established at SMART soon.

In the Infectious Diseases IRG, you will have opportunity to work with leading investigators in novel platform technologies and their applications in the following diseases: malaria, tuberculosis, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus infections. The IRG is currently looking for a Postdoctoral Associate.

Postdoctoral Associate (Mass Spectrometry)
The candidate will join the research group of Prof. Peter Dedon as part of an interdisciplinary team of microbiologists and bioanalytical chemists at the National University of Singapore and MIT, with the position based in Singapore. He/she will lead efforts to develop mass spectrometry-based bioanalytical approaches to define the role of RNA nucleoside 2° modifications in the pathogenicity of M. tuberculosis and other microorganisms. The project will entail processing of RNA and DNA samples, development of highly quantitative mass spectrometric methods, interpretation of mass spectrometric data, statistical analysis of datasets and informatic analysis of biosynthetic pathways in microorganisms. Previous experience in microbiology, bioinformatics and multivariate statistical tools is viewed favorably, but is not necessary.

Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Chemistry or any Biomedical field.
- Experience in mass spectrometry operation and data interpretation is required.
- Experience in bioanalytical chemistry and handling with biological samples are required.
- Nucleic acid experience will be an advantage.
- Ability to work independently, but within a team-based research environment is essential.
