Job Summary: The incumbent will be a project-specific post-doctoral fellow working on an after-school program evaluation starting in late 2009 conducted by UCSF’s Division of Adolescent Medicine and Center for Science & Education Opportunity, in collaboration with the San Francisco Unified School District. Housed in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Adolescent Medicine, the incumbent will assist in the evaluation design; gathering of various data sources, including both qualitative and quantitative data; compilation and synthesis of the data; collaboratively develop surveys and interview and observation protocols; data collection, including administering surveys and conducting interviews and observations; data management; statistical analyses in collaboration with team members; prepare/author/co-author research manuscripts for publication and scientific presentations; general administrative functions; and perform other duties as assigned. There is ample opportunity for the postdoctoral fellow to be primary author on publications in areas of research interest.

Required qualifications: Ph.D. in education, psychology, sociology, or related science field; ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues as part of a team; experience working with community-based organizations; strong project management skills; training in and working knowledge of behavioral science and research design; expertise with data management and statistical analyses; technical (behavioral science) writing skills; outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; strong organizational skills, including the abilities to meet deadlines and manage multiple research activities simultaneously; ability to work flexible hours, which could include early evenings and occasional weekends; excellence in reliability and attendance; availability to begin work in late 2009. A preliminary job offer and assignment may be extended pending successful background clearance: Fingerprinting and background check required.

Preferred qualifications: Experience conducting research in elementary and/or secondary school settings; experience working on cross-disciplinary teams; successful experience with grant-writing or formulating proposals for funding; prior UCSF or UC experience.
