NYC hedge fund is seeking an Operations Engineer to help us monitor, manage and develop our production and operations systems. Job responsibilities include ensuring the smooth execution of our strategies in various markets around the world. This person will report to the Director of Operations. You can pipe several Linux commands together and redirect output to accomplish a task at the prompt. Object oriented programming and scripting proficiency. You can write a sizable application that collects, parses and displays information, then automates actions based on that data. You apply your experience when faced with unfamiliar situations. Based on your existing skills, you can use search engines, documentation and reference books to complete a task in previously unfamiliar ways. Comfort when working with normalized databases. You can write an efficient left join query against a MySQL database, then write an application to use those results. Talent for debugging an unfamiliar problem. You can take an error message in a log file and identify likely culprits and causes. In the process, you think of several ways to fix or work around the problem. A knack for effective and clear communication in person, over the phone and by email. You welcome being the first point of contact, ask pertinent questions and take the appropriate action. Daily responsibilities will include: Working closely with software engineers, systems engineers, strategy developers and management to ensure smooth execution of operating procedures Managing, monitoring and investigating operational issues Maintaining, bug fixing and enhancing our production applications using Ruby, Lua, bash and C++.
