Research Pathologist/Scientist

The Department of Medical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the School of Medicine at the University of California, Davis, announces a search for 1-2 full-time academic pathologists/scientists at the level of Associate or Full Professor (tenure-track or combination 50% tenure-track/50% In Residence series) to perform and lead a basic and clinical-translational research program related to cancer, vascular disease, or diabetes. The successful candidate must possess either a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./PhD. degree, and have an independently funded research program. Special consideration will be given to applicants focusing on nutritional or inflammatory mechanisms of disease. Experience or interest in developing and leading biorepositories is considered highly desirable. Other responsibilities will include teaching of medical students, residents, fellows, and graduate students; and university and public service. Clinical duties may be required, based on degree, training, and level of research funding. The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment is essential. Office and research space will be provided. A large number of core facilities are available on the Davis campus and in Sacramento at the UC Davis Medical Center.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has over 30 faculty members, provides service in all major subspecialties of anatomic and clinical pathology, and is active in basic science, translational, and clinical research. Educational programs include a 14-person residency program and specialty fellowships in hematopathology, cytopathology, and surgical pathology. The University of California, Davis, Medical Center (UCDMC) and the School of Medicine (SOM) are located in Sacramento, the capitol of California, with a metropolitan population of 1.5 million people.
