NRIMS is a Biomedical Technology Resource Center (P41, http://www.nibib.nih.gov/Research/ResourceCenters) that develops biomedical applications of Multi-isotope Imaging Mass Spectrometry (MIMS), which is the combination of a novel type of ion microscope/secondary ion mass spectrometer (NanoSIMS 50/50L, Cameca) with tracer methods and intensive quantitative image analysis. MIMS allows high-resolution quantitative 2D and 3D imaging of stable isotope tagged molecules within subcellular volumes.

The Assistant Director will manage the activities of the Resource to ensure optimal efficiency. Mass spectrometry expertise is required. Secondary ion mass spectrometry experience is a plus.

The position may be filled at Research Associate/Instructor level.
A commitment of at least 3 years is required.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee and coordinate the NIH mandated components of the National Resource (http://www.nibib.nih.gov/Research/ResourceCenters): Technological Research & Development; Collaborative Research; Service; Training; and Dissemination. Our research includes collaborative projects with over 25 labs around the world, as well as core R&D.

    1. Before analysis:
        - ensure protocols are discussed and finalized before MIMS analysis
        - ensure all samples are fully documented
        - schedule analysis to maximize usage of the instruments, aiming for 24/7 operation
    2. During analysis:
        - Oversee two NanoSIMS instruments: one is a prototype NanoSIMS 50 with 4 mass detectors, the other is a state-of-the-art new NanoSIMS 50L with 7 mass detectors.
        - Oversee two NanoSIMS operators
        - Oversee instrumental conditions
        - Troubleshoot equipment issues
    3. After analysis:
        - Oversee data reduction, analysis and reporting of results
        - Assist with the preparation of manuscripts
- Responsible for the day-to-day scientific operation of the Resource

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Ph.D in Physics with Biology, Chemistry with Biology, or Biology with a strong quantitative component
- Mass spectrometry expertise required
- Fluency in secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) a plus
- 3+ years postdoctoral experience
- Leadership/management experience

To apply: Interested applicants should send: 1) cover letter, 2) Curriculum Vitae and 3) contact details of three references to: Yeshe Fenner at yfenner @ partners.org.
