A 6-8 month postdoctoral position with responsibilities for conducting research on the molecular biology and microbial physiology of Mycobacterium smegmatis and teaching portions of Medical Microbiology for Pharmacy students is anticipated at the Texas A&M College of Pharmacy, pending approval. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in an academic faculty position, but who has not yet obtained classroom teaching experience. Division of labor would be approximately 1/3 time on teaching activities and 2/3 time on research. Teaching responsibilities would extend from early January until mid-May, and would involve attending all 35 microbiology lectures, presenting about 10 lectures based on already made slides, and helping run the course for about 85 students. Current research in the lab is focused on the use of phenotypic arrays to identify gene function in Mycobacterium smegmatis, and uses molecular and physiological approaches. Applicants must have experience growing bacteria and with molecular biology. The applicant would be joining a small research group of two other postdoctoral scientists and the PI in a newly established College of Pharmacy in South Texas. South Texas has a warm and pleasant climate, and as a region is one of the most rapidly growing areas of the country, but yet is an inexpensive place to live. Kingsville, the location of the College of Pharmacy, is a small town that is a one-hour drive from Corpus Christi (a metropolitan area of 400,000) and the beaches of Padre Island. Applicants must be able to move into this position quickly, making it impossible to come directly from outside of the US due to immigration delays and the need for a face-to-face interview.
