Georgia Southern University, a member institution of the University System of Georgia, invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Statistics in the Department of Mathematical Sciences in the Allen E. Paulson College of Science and Technology. Position Description: The duties of the successful applicant include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising MS degree candidates, producing scholarship and performing professional service. The successful candidate will have research and teaching interests that complement those of the current faculty and will be committed to strengthening the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide consulting expertise to the general university community. The position is a 9-month appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Required Qualifications: • Earned doctorate in statistics or a closely related field by August 1, 2010. • Evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, with demonstrated effectiveness in statistics instruction. • Demonstrated commitment to a strong, sustained research program with strong potential for securing external research funding. • Good command of written and spoken English.
Screening of applications begins January 15, 2010, and continues until the position is filled. The position starting date is August 1, 2010.
