Job Title: Biologist/Toxicologist/Phy Scientist -- permanent position
Description:

We are looking for a biologist/toxicologist/phy scientist with a  strong background in the mathematical modeling of biological systems.

The incumbent will work in the fields of health and quantitative  assessment and is responsible for serving EPA as an expert in the integration of data in these areas.  A specific area of focus in this position is detailed biological evaluation and analysis of quantitative data on the response of organisms to environmental stressors (especially toxic substances).  As such this work requires both development of expert evaluations of the quantitative biological data (including measurement methods and interpretation of test systems) as well as ability to apply mathematical modeling and statistical techniques to represent these data.

At the full performance level, the incumbent will develop innovative methods for environmental assessment and apply them. Identify areas where new methods or tools for quantitative risk assessment would significantly improve the ability of assessors to make use of more information or make better use of existing information.  The incumbent will be responsible for collaborative work with appropriate EPA staff on the development and/or adaption of new or non-standard quantitative and modeling methodologies and for evaluation of the suitability of these methodologies.

The incumbent will develop assessments of environmental pollutants.  Responsible for scientific support and conduct of quantitative analyses for assessment of pollutants, developing methodological advances as necessary.

Assess risks from polluted sites.  Provide scientific and quantitative analysis (including collaborative work to support interdisciplinary research) of site-specific information to make quantitative inferences about risks at specific polluted sites.

Serve as a member, or leader of a multi-interdisciplinary risk assessment team.  Identify potential problems for senior managers.  Review risk assessment documents, managing extramural projects, and expert consulting.
