Job Title: Postdoctoral position in biomedical image analysis
Description:

The Penn Image Computing and Science Laboratory (PICSL) seeks highly qualified applicants for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow. The positions involve pursuing independent research in the field of biomedical imaging analysis, supporting collaborations with clinical investigators, and contributing to the specific aims of NIH and industry grants. Specific funded projects associated with these positions include:

1. Research on tract-specific, manifold-based approaches for diffusion-weighted brain MRI analysis;

2. Construction of detailed computational anatomical atlases from postmortem imaging, along with algorithms that leverage these atlases for the segmentation of in vivo imaging data;

3. Development of novel object-centric computational models for imaging analysis.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree (or expect to defend in the near future); an excellent background in mathematics and computational sciences; and a strong track record of independent research in medical image analysis, computer vision, or a related field. Applicants must have publications in the major journals (e.g., Neuroimage, MedIA, IJCV, TMI, PAMI) and/or conferences (MICCAI, IPMI, IJCV, CVPR, etc.). Applicants with expertise in the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply:

  *   computational neuroanatomy;
  *   deformable models and model-based segmentation;
  *   machine learning and statistical methods for image-based inference;
  *   C++ programming, particularly using the Insight Toolkit (ITK).

PICSL is a dynamic and growing group led by Profs. James C. Gee and Paul A. Yushkevich. The group is involved in many exciting biomedical imaging projects, including development of novel analysis methodologies; application of the state-of-the-art techniques to clinical studies; and translational research. PICSL is deeply committed to the principles of open science, and is a leader in development and dissemination of open-source image analysis applications (ITK-SNAP, ANTS, DTI-TK). PICSL is a part of the graduate groups of the Departments of Computer and Information Science, and Bioengineering. It is affiliated with the Centers for Functional Neuroimaging, for Bioinformatics and for Cognitive Neuroscience, the Institutes for Medicine and Engineering and for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics, the General Robotics, Automation, Sensing and Perception Laboratory, the Working Group on Applied Mathematics and Computational Science, and the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics, and is a founding member of the Center for Health Informatics at Penn, the Penn Center for Musculoskeletal Disorders, and the National Library of Medicine Insight Consortium.

PICSL is located in Philadelphia, a vibrant city that offers many professional and cultural opportunities. PICSL fosters a friendly, noncompetitive, collaborative environment where each individual member of the laboratory is able to thrive, while also effectively contributing to the group’s overall programmatic aims. Trainees are strongly encouraged to form collaborations, seek pilot funding, and pursue independent research. Past postdoctoral trainees at PICSL have been very successful in obtaining highly competitive positions in the academia, industry and US Government agencies.

The University of Pennsylvania is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer. Women and minority candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Please submit curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research interests, and names of three references to:
