The Lee Lab is seeking two highly motivated individuals to fill POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS for projects in the biology of the tumor microenvironment and regulation of the monocyte/macrophage lineage. Our research focuses on the signal transduction pathways that regulate the development of macrophages from hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells and macrophage polarization.  We are particularly interested in the origin and role of these cells in inflammatory processes and cancer.  The long-term goal of our research is to understand at the molecular level how myeloid-derived cells in the tumor microenvironment drive cancer, through the use of mouse genetic models and advanced technology and to use this knowledge to identify novel drug targets and therapeutic strategies.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to develop independent projects while drawing on the resources of a multidisciplinary environment. We are part of a new University initiative in systems biology with access to the extensive resources of the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine (http://www.uthouston.edu/imm/) in flow cytometry, imaging, state-of-the-art transgenic facility and barrier housing, next generation sequencing, proteomics and mass spectrometry.  The institute provides a stimulating and challenging research environment with cutting-edge research programs and numerous seminars, including a series dedicated to postdoctoral trainees. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in molecular cell biology or relevant field received within the last 3 years.  Experience in signal transduction, hematopoiesis or inflammation is highly desirable.  Hands-on experience with mouse work is a plus.  Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English are essential.  Publication record in English language, peer-reviewed journals will be a major determinant of candidacy.
